About MS177

Our Mission

MS177 prepares students to be critical thinkers, effective problem solvers and powerful communicators in a rapidly changing 21st century world. We engage students in an education that broadens and deepens their understanding of the world around them in both the social and physical sciences. By embracing academic voice, student voice, collaboration, self-direction, and empathy, our students will have the confidence, tenacity and skills for success.

Who We Are

MS177 Yorkville East Middle School is a new middle school located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. We pride ourselves on our small, tight-knit community in which every adult knows every child and helps support their growth throughout their three years of middle school. To do this, we utilize our small class size to provide students with individualized and small group instruction. Our advisory periods allow us for daily check-ins, and the reinforcement of your core values to help our students built strong bonds and respectful relationships with their peers. To enhance students’ love for learning, we offer enrichment classes in math, art, newspaper, science, debate, and team sports in addition ot our fusion classes in STEM and Humanities. This approach allows for students to continue exploring the different topics that might interest them while providing the solid foundation necessary for success in high school and beyond.

Our Core Values

Academic Rigor  is our commitment to challenging, enriching education that deepens thinking about the world around us.
Student Voice describes our commitment to hear and enhance our students’ ability to express their thoughts, opinions and findings in a professional manner through individual and collective action.
Collaboration is the commitment to teamwork and learning from one another.
Self-Direction is the belief that the role of education is to provide the knowledge and confidence to choose and academic path and build on interest, ask questions and investigate the world.
Empathy is our deep regard for the people and the world  around us, treating everyone and everything with compassion and understanding.
